Google is testing "Call for Me," a new feature that uses Gemini to call businesses on behalf of users. Currently available in beta, the tool is restricted to Pixel 11 owners in the United States who maintain a paid Gemini subscription and use the beta version of Google's Phone app.

The AI assistant operates by navigating phone menus, waiting through hold times, and calling directly from the user's phone number. Gemini can pass along user-approved personal details to handle complex tasks such as making reservations, checking product stock, or rescheduling appointments. Users can monitor the interaction via a live transcript and take over the conversation whenever necessary.

This release builds on earlier company experiments like Google Duplex, entering a growing market where competitors like Meta are also introducing voice-calling AI agents. Google noted that it is starting with a limited rollout because real-world phone conversations involve significant nuance.

This tool marks an important step toward autonomous AI agents managing everyday phone tasks.
