Tencent has released its new Hy4 artificial intelligence model, featuring image understanding and computer use capabilities while claiming second place among Chinese models in independent tests. The language model, which was trained on significantly more data than its predecessor, is currently available through Tencent Cloud, OpenRouter, and company apps like Yuanbao, with model weights scheduled for release at a later date.
The model was specifically optimized for coding, finance, and office work. Hy4 introduces new image understanding features to recognize fine details in photos and diagrams, and can operate software independently across professional tools like Blender, CAD programs, and Microsoft Office applications. Tencent also adapted the model for popular game engines including Unreal, Unity, and Godot to assist with configuration tasks and bug fixing.
In evaluations by over two hundred finance professionals, Hy4 outperformed several Chinese rival models, while independent assessments from Artificial Analysis placed Hy4 with a score of 35 points on its Intelligence Index, tying it with Grok 4.7 and ranking it second among Chinese lab models. Tencent reported that the model also helped optimize its own internal training pipeline for future systems.
This release matters because it demonstrates the growing capability and competitive standing of Chinese AI models in specialized professional, coding, and office automation tasks.
