Fal has raised $1.3 billion in a Series F funding round led by Bessemer Venture Partners, doubling its valuation to $16 billion from $8 billion in April. The San Francisco-based startup, which hosts and runs AI video, image, and audio models, announced both its Series E and F rounds simultaneously, securing a combined $1.65 billion with participation from Nvidia, Sound Ventures, and T. Rowe Price. Sequoia led the earlier Series E round.

The massive funding highlights soaring demand for AI inference services, which run already-trained models to generate outputs, particularly for customers using open-source models. Alongside this rapid growth, Fal surpassed $800 million in annualized revenue earlier this year. Similar inference providers like Baseten, Fireworks AI, and Modal are also scaling quickly, though their gross margins remain thin due to heavy compute expenses. Co-founded in 2021 by Burkay Gur and Gorkem Yurtseven, Fal exemplifies the massive capital flowing into AI infrastructure as industry usage expands.

Why it matters: The explosive valuation growth of Fal highlights the massive capital and compute demands driving the booming AI inference market.
