OpenAI has doubled usage limits for several paid subscription tiers in response to intensifying competition with Anthropic. The changes immediately impact Work and Codex quotas on both the Pro 100 and Pro 500 plans, granting subscribers twice their previous allotment. For the Pro 200 plan, OpenAI doubled its lower quota and successfully reversed a previously planned capacity cut following user pushback. Meanwhile, the standard Plus plan remains unchanged. New subscriptions automatically incorporate these updated quotas, and existing customers receive the upgrades seamlessly.

Although usage quotas have doubled, OpenAI noted that this does not necessarily translate to twice as many completed tasks, as consumption varies significantly based on the chosen model, task type, and user settings. Additionally, expanded usage limits for the newly introduced Dots remain active, although Dot consumption is tracked separately from standard quotas.

OpenAI stated that it will continue rolling out improved models and efficiency gains to further expand usable capacity for its customers. This capacity expansion arrives as rival firm Anthropic prepares for an initial public offering, highlighting the fierce rivalry between the companies for business-to-business dominance in the artificial intelligence sector.

Why it matters: This capacity increase directly impacts enterprise workflow limits and highlights how competitive pressure between leading AI labs is delivering tangible benefits to paying subscribers.
