Suno has launched a new feature called Speech that allows users to generate spoken audio combined with matching background music as a single track. By typing written text or an idea along with descriptions for the desired voice and music style, users can create custom audio for poems, meditations, and bedtime stories. Product chief Jack Brody noted that the company tested the beta feature with a small group for a month, though some bugs still persist, such as British accents occasionally sounding Australian.
The release of the Speech feature arrives as Suno faces ongoing legal scrutiny regarding its training data. The company has not disclosed how it trained the new model, amid broader industry criticism over potential copyright infringement. Major record labels have previously filed lawsuits against Suno, and a Munich court recently rejected the startup's fair use defense regarding copyrighted data.
This update expands Suno's capabilities beyond traditional music generation into spoken-word audio content.
