Replit CEO and co-founder Amjad Masad shared his vision for the self-driving company at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco, explaining how artificial intelligence agents are transforming workplace operations. Rather than referring to autonomous vehicles, the concept describes organizations where AI agents handle routine grunt work while human employees focus on judgment, taste, and architecture. Masad noted that Replit completely changed its operations over the past year as AI agents became increasingly reliable.
Illustrating this operational shift, Masad described how Replit handles customer support tickets using a combination of AI agents and human workers. An AI agent first examines incoming requests by checking GitHub issues, the codebase, and Linear tickets to perform initial triaging. When a support worker decides to submit a patch, another agent deploys it with a single click, creating a closed loop where human judgment directs agent execution.
This transformation has shifted how employees spend their time at work rather than eliminating their jobs entirely. Workers now dedicate more effort to figuring out what to build, engaging in whiteboarding sessions, and discussing system architecture. Masad emphasized that these technological changes make work less boring and more creative, allowing businesses to explore positive visions for AI transformation that enhance productivity and job satisfaction.
Why it matters: This vision highlights how enterprise AI adoption is shifting daily workflows from manual execution to human-directed agent management.
