openKylin outlined its vision for reimagining Linux in the AI era at Open Source Summit Europe 2026, held in Prague from October 7 to 9. Executive Director Min Liu delivered a main-stage keynote introducing KART, a unified AI runtime, and a system-level agent execution environment, while Technical Committee member Jianfeng Li discussed building an AI-ready Linux desktop on RISC-V. Originating in China, openKylin showcased its latest work on integrating AI into operating systems to transition from traditional resource management to intent management.
The new architecture comprises a runtime layer featuring KART and the kytensor local inference engine, an agent execution layer supporting KylinBot and third-party agents, and a capability layer providing API tools and desktop GUI skills. In openKylin 3.0, these components power an AI Assistant, Global Intelligent Search, and Intelligent Space. The project also highlighted RVV kernel optimizations delivering a two to five times speedup in FP32 inference with ONNX Runtime, alongside support for CPU inference with vLLM on SpacemiT K3.
This work addresses the fragmented AI stack and hardware-software integration challenges by creating a system infrastructure to connect AI with everyday computing. openKylin plans to contribute its RVV kernel optimizations and inference framework enablement work upstream through open contributions.
