Flox Intelligence has developed an AI-powered wildlife-deterrent system designed to keep animals safely away from trains, airports, roads, and other critical infrastructure. Founded by Sara Nozkova as a spinout from KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm in 2020, the company creates edge devices that process data locally on-site rather than relying on cloud infrastructure.

The edge units utilize motion sensors to wake up a camera, which then runs on-device models to identify nearby animals and emit species-appropriate sounds to deter them. Unlike traditional methods such as static sirens, fences, or culling, the Flox system varies its audio responses over time to prevent animals from becoming habituated to repeated signals. The company currently has roughly 150 devices deployed across North America, Europe, and Australia, protecting locations ranging from airport perimeters and rail corridors to agricultural land and electrical substations.

In addition to hardware, Flox provides a software platform for tracking device deployment, monitoring ground activity, and generating compliance reports for biodiversity monitoring. The long-term product roadmap includes porting the software to run directly on mobile machinery like trains, cars, and drones through OEM partnerships. This technology reduces millions in infrastructure damages and flight disruptions caused by wildlife strikes while preventing harm to animals.
