Google launched a new website on Tuesday that allows anyone to verify whether an image, video, or audio clip was generated by artificial intelligence. The company previously made this verification tool available for testing to select journalists, media professionals, and researchers at Google I/O last year before opening public access. The platform supports a wide variety of formats, including numerous image types, major video containers, and standard audio files.

Google relies on its SynthID technology, introduced in 2023, to detect AI-generated content. Internal models such as Nano Banana, Veo, Lyria, Gemini, Flow, ProducerAI, and Vids utilize SynthID to watermark their outputs. Furthermore, other major technology firms like OpenAI, Nvidia, and Kakao also support SynthID, while companies such as Microsoft and Meta maintain separate verification standards. Google has integrated SynthID verification directly into the Gemini app and Google Chrome, handling approximately one million content verification requests daily.

This tool provides a reliable method for the public and media professionals to authenticate digital content amid rising concerns over synthetic media.
