Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 smartphone processors, focusing on advanced AI-focused features. Revealed at the annual Snapdragon Summit, the new chips feature sensing hubs capable of running small models of up to 200 million parameters locally on devices. This capability enables functions such as a personal scribe, speaker differentiation, task automation suggestions, and complete voice-in and voice-out agent interactions.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 includes a new accelerator designed for efficient model execution, while the higher-end Extreme version can run a 30-billion-parameter mixture-of-experts model locally. Additionally, the processors provide pixel-level camera control, enhanced stabilization, AI-powered vocal boosting, and noise reduction features like voice bubble technology. Motorola announced that its upcoming Motorola Signature 27 smartphone will be powered by the Snapdragon Gen 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and become available this year.

This hardware release matters because it significantly expands local on-device generative AI capabilities, paving the way for advanced mobile AI agents and high-performance processing without relying exclusively on cloud infrastructure.
