A growing number of AI agents can now be texted like ordinary people through messaging services to remember context, connect to existing apps, and complete tasks. Rather than requiring users to download a separate application, text-based assistants such as Caddy, Fambot, Folk, and Instinct allow users to manage schedules, make reservations, and handle communications directly from platforms like iMessage, RCS, WhatsApp, and Telegram.
Among these text-based AI assistants, Instinct stands out with a $10 billion valuation following a $1 billion funding round in September 2026. Other notable options include Caddy, an assistant operating in public beta since April 2026 for iPhone and Android users; Fambot, a family chief of staff launched in September 2026 that integrates with SMS and Gmail; and Folk, which runs on a private cloud computer to execute multi-step tasks. These agents perform practical actions like booking travel, organizing calendars, and running code on behalf of the user.
Text-based AI assistants matter because they eliminate the friction of separate apps by integrating directly into the messaging platforms people already use daily to automate complex personal tasks.
