Former Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer launched Dazzle, a new personal AI assistant that raised an eight million dollar seed round last December. Unlike tools that gather context from text-heavy applications like email and calendars, Dazzle builds its understanding exclusively from a user's camera roll.
By analyzing stored photos, the assistant aims to learn a user's hobbies, food and style preferences, travel history, and interests. The application features two core experiences, performing immediate tasks by scanning recent photos and mining the broader photo library to generate personalized ideas for vacations and gifts. Mayer contends that users may feel more comfortable sharing photo libraries than sensitive data like emails and messages, noting that Dazzle prioritizes privacy and discards sensitive personal information.
This launch matters because it introduces a distinct approach to personal AI assistants, leveraging photo libraries rather than text histories to build context and understand user preferences.
