Black Forest Labs has released FLUX 3 Image Klein, a 5.6-billion-parameter open-weights model designed for text-to-image generation, image editing, and multi-reference image creation. The new model supports native 4K output, pixel-accurate editing, and bounding boxes for precise element placement. In internal testing by Black Forest Labs, the model achieved the highest Elo ratings among all open-weights models, outperforming closed competitors like Ideogram V4.5 and the company's own FLUX.2 [pro]. Furthermore, it gains 91 Elo points over the previous FLUX.2 [klein] while utilizing 38 percent fewer parameters than that 9-billion-parameter predecessor.

The technological efficiency of FLUX 3 Image Klein stems from an INT8 build that allows it to run smoothly on consumer NVIDIA GPUs with just 8 GB of VRAM, generating a new image in under nine seconds on an RTX 4070. Developers and creators can access the model locally via ComfyUI and Diffusers, on Hugging Face Spaces, through a Playground, or via the BFL API at $0.009 per 1,000 images. Additionally, day-one LoRA training is fully supported through the Ostris AI Toolkit and NVIDIA NeMo AutoModel, while the model weights are distributed under the FLUX Kommunity License, offering free commercial use for companies generating under $5 million in annual revenue.

This release matters because bringing high-performance, top-tier generative image capabilities and native 4K output to consumer hardware with only 8 GB of VRAM significantly lowers the barrier to entry for independent creators and small businesses.
