OpenAI has launched the new Decisions API, a platform update that evaluates text and images roughly ten times faster than the Responses API. Currently available in public beta with general availability coming soon, the new tool supports the gpt-6-luna model at a cost of $0.10 per million input tokens, while output tokens are free.
The API is designed to handle three specific response types including yes and no probabilities, category picks, and scale-based ratings. According to the company, practical use cases for the tool include damage detection in photos, automated customer inquiry routing, and document classification, while offering zero-data retention and HIPAA-compliant use in the United States and Europe.
In addition to the Decisions API, OpenAI streamlined its paid API tiers from five down to three categories named Build, Launch, and Grow. Organizations will automatically transition between tiers as their total credit purchases reach predefined thresholds, operating under monthly usage limits of $500, $5,000, and $200,000.
This update matters because it provides developers with faster, specialized evaluation workflows and simplified pricing tiers for enterprise integration.
