OpenAI is implementing new card and device limits for ChatGPT users as part of its security measures, effectively steering users toward more paid usage. Under the updated policy, users who link too many subscriptions to the same payment card or device will be blocked from starting new ones, and ChatGPT is capping the number of paid accounts per device. When users reach this restriction, they encounter a "Device limit reached" message, and the affected account can no longer be utilized on that specific device.

These new limits apply specifically to ChatGPT Go, Plus, Pro 100, Pro 200, and Pro 500 plans, while free accounts, Business, Enterprise, and Edu plans are excluded. Furthermore, simply logging out of an account does not free up a slot for another on that device, according to official support documentation. This policy change directly impacts individuals who previously switched between multiple paid accounts on a single device to maximize usage from flat-rate subscriptions.

To compensate for these restrictions, OpenAI directs users toward purchasing extra credits or usage resets, which typically cost more than maintaining an additional subscription. This adjustment indicates that the company is gradually prioritizing revenue generation over sheer user growth. Such measures ultimately push heavy users toward higher-cost options while tightening control over account sharing and subscription methods.
