Runware is planning to mass-produce modular AI data centers on an assembly line much like cars, aiming to scale production at its Romania-based factory to 30 megawatts of data center capacity per day by 2028. The company previously unveiled the Sonic Inference Pod, a modular data center built in a factory and shipped ready to install. Flaviu Radulescu, co-founder and CEO of Runware, stated that the firm aims to bring pods online within 48 hours for installation and set-up.

Runware currently utilizes one factory and is finishing a second facility expected to go online early next year. Customers can provide their own sites, supply their own GPUs, or rent compute from Runware while paying a monthly fee. The company designs its own components to adapt quickly to new GPU generations and plans to raise a Series B funding round, building upon the $50 million Series A raised last December.

While manufacturing ventures face high risks, such as the cautionary tale of electric vehicle startup Arrival, Runware believes its cost structure and automotive industry hires will keep operations sustainable. This factory-based approach reflects an industrywide push by companies like Nvidia and Crusoe to deploy AI infrastructure faster and more efficiently.
