TypeSafe AI, developer of the non-text AI model Jev, has successfully raised $870 million in a new funding round that values the startup at $7.5 billion just weeks after its launch. The investment round was led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Sequoia and existing investor DCVC. The massive financial backing follows the viral release of Jev on September 15, with the startup claiming that one-third of Fortune 500 companies have already adopted the technology for enterprise use.
Jev utilizes a transformer architecture but diverges from traditional large language models by outputting probabilities and calibrated decisions instead of generating text or code. Co-founded in 2024 by former OpenAI researcher Diogo Almeida, former Meta research engineer Sasha Sheng, and engineer Erik Gafni, the company designed Jev to operate significantly faster and use fewer tokens than LLMs. The founders position this distinct approach as uniquely optimized for automating complex tasks rather than processing human language.
This substantial funding and rapid enterprise adoption highlight the growing market demand for specialized AI models that bypass traditional text generation in favor of direct task automation and efficient decision-making.
