Jev has achieved the fastest adoption rate of any artificial intelligence model in its first two weeks, according to Vercel data published on Thursday. Developed by TypeSafe AI and released in a limited capacity on September 15, the lightweight decision model was utilized by 35 percent of paid teams within two weeks of launch, reaching nearly double the adoption of the second most popular model, Sonnet 5.5.
Designed specifically to choose between a limited number of predetermined outputs, Jev operates faster and cheaper than alternatives like Sonnet, making it highly effective for rapidly classifying large datasets. This efficiency has driven significant industry interest and inspired competing products from major technology firms including OpenAI and Amazon. Vercel itself adopted Jev early, replacing GPT-6 Luna to handle the classification of harmful commands within its systems.
The adoption metrics originate from Vercel’s AI gateway, a unified API service comparable to OpenRouter, which captures real-world usage trends across developers. Additionally, the data highlights broader market shifts, showing that open-source models currently drive over 70 percent of processed tokens on the gateway, while spending on frontier laboratory models has increased tenfold. Why it matters: This rapid uptake demonstrates that lightweight, specialized decision models can quickly capture significant market share and validate emerging architectural approaches in real-world deployment.
