Meta announced the launch of its new AI-powered feature, Your Algorithm, on Facebook on Tuesday to give users greater control over their feeds. The tool allows Facebook users to influence the content they see in Feed and Reels by describing their preferences in their own words using natural language. Rather than relying entirely on automated recommendations, users can now communicate directly with the platform about the topics and content they want to see more or less frequently, with changes reflected in real time.

The company has also updated Facebook's three-dot menu, making it easier for users to manage content preferences directly from individual posts. Users can access Your Algorithm or select Interested and Not interested options, and the platform may ask follow-up questions to better understand what users liked or disliked. This buildout follows similar personalization efforts on Instagram, which introduced Your Algorithm in June after launching it for Reels in December 2025, alongside Threads introducing a related feature called Dear Algo.

The introduction of Your Algorithm reflects Meta's broader effort to give people more influence over their social media experiences as artificial intelligence increasingly shapes content discovery. The move signals a shift away from traditional recommendation systems toward greater user personalization. This update matters because it changes how billions of users interact with social media content algorithms by introducing direct natural language controls.
