OpenAI has globally launched two new shopping features for ChatGPT, including a virtual try-on tool for clothing and accessories and a favorites function to save items. Announced on Thursday, these updates leverage the ChatGPT Images 2.5 model to offer natural lighting, richer textures, reliable editing instruction following, and reduced image generation latency.

The virtual try-on feature lets users upload a selfie or full-body photo to see how apparel or accessories look on them by tapping a Try On button in shopping results. Users can also upload item screenshots to have ChatGPT try them on, while the new favorites option saves discovered products and try-on images to a library. Additionally, users can describe desired styles for outfit curation or upload celebrity outfit photos to find purchasable items.

These additions position ChatGPT to compete with established fashion discovery platforms like Pinterest and Google, though market adoption remains uncertain since Google introduced its own virtual try-on last year. This expansion highlights how conversational AI assistants are actively developing consumer retail use cases.
